Since then Tonya has gone on to winning some of the most prestigious Awards in the Canadian Reggae industry along with her many Awards in 2011 she was also Nominated for A Juno Award for best Reggae Recording Artist of the year for her hit single “Don’t Wanna Go” which is by far the highest Award Canada has to offer in any genre of music.

Born and Raised in Toronto

Tonya was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, where she began singing in her high school music productions at the age of 14.

The combination of modern R&B with the sweet sound of Reggae and Soul was her style and it was embraced immediately by anyone who heard her. Tonya P has truly become the voice for young women across the globe. She has a unique style that is adored by many and a voice that is most compelling.

Tonya P’s style is sort of mixed between Reggae and R&B

Tonya was always very much influenced by Reggae singers such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and Marcia Griffiths not to mention the R&B singers of her time – Whitney Houston, Mary j Blige and Faith Evans just to name a few. However coming from a Jamaican background gave Tonya the ability to relate to the Reggae culture

Tonya has a remarkable gift for writing lyrics that reach out and touch masses regardless of age or gender Tonya has already exceeded the expectations of a Toronto female Reggae artist and now plans to raise the bar as far as she can.

Tonya P’s music comes from the heart

When asked about the inspiration behind her music she quickly responded “Three things – Life, Love and Pain It is evident that Tonya P’s music comes from the heart it has a pure truth that is undeniable that everyone can relate to.

Tonya has had the pleasure of performing on many shows in Canada, Jamaica and the USA such as Toronto’s Jamaica day Celebration, and most recently the Calgary Reggae Festival. Tonya P has also performed on the Bob Marley Birthday Bash in Negril Jamaica for 4 consecutive years in the star time segment. Throughout the years she has been fortunate enough to share the stage alongside some of the Biggest Reggae artists in the world today such as Freddie Mcgregor, Bunny Wailer, Tarrus Riley, Luciano, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Gyptian, Shine Head, Lady Saw and Bares Hammond.

Her new hit single “Here with me” and “I Wanna Thank You” has recently been released and has been receiving rave reviews along with steady airplay on some of Toronto’s top Reggae programs and internationally. Tonya P is at present working hard in the studio preparing to release her first album which is generating a massive buzz in and around the reggae industry on a global scale.

What’s next for Tonya?

Tonya plans to do many more live shows both locally and internationally to get the world more familiar with the soon to be Reggae Superstar.

He does not wear dreadlocks. He does not smoke weed or anything else. He is not homophobic. His last name is not Marley. In fact, he is not even sure who is father is, which is why he is just desmond. He is definitely not from one of the reggae families. He has only one daughter and only one wife. He is well over thirty and is yet to win any major awards or visit the Billboard charts. He has been living away from Jamaica for the last nine years. If there is any street cred left from all of this, he would have lost it for being a classically-trained musician.

In spite of all of this, he has sold 2,400 copies of his EP Losers Never Win which was released digitally and physically recently. There are major label reggae acts struggling to sell 2,000 CDs. He has been performing all over the United States, including the Apollo Theater in NYC which has been aired all over the world on BET/Centric. He has been getting good reviews and airplay from stations such as the Fatsa Fatsa Show, KTUH, and Indies in Motion. All of this has been done without the help of a booking agent, distributor, publicist, or record label. The EP features Pam Hall (“Dear Boopsie”, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Dennis Brown, Jimmy Cliff, I-Threes, Toots Hibbert, Ziggy Marley) providing harmonies, Desi Jones (Jimmy Cliff, Monty Alexander, Ernie Ranglin) on drums, Leabert “Gibby” Morrison (Beres Hammond, Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Toots Hibbert) and Donald Waugh (Chalice) on bass, Dennis Rushton (BET Jazz) on keyboards and Nicholas Laraque (Stephen Marley) on saxophone.

desmond, who hails from Kingston, Jamaica has sung gospel, classical and reggae music solo and in choirs professionally since he was eight years old. The musicians playing on the EP, which was recorded at Tuff Gong, Bob Marley’s studio in Kingston, Jamaica, represent the crème de la crème of the internationally renowned Jamaican reggae/pop/jazz scene.

The two-day music festival will take place on June 15 and June 16. The 2013 festival continues its years of impressive lineups with notable names like Steel Pulse, Luciano, Capleton Marcia Griffiths, The Green and other announced artists and bands.

The smooth vibes of reggae will include Steel Pulse, whose debut in the late ’70s is regarded by critics as a landmark of British reggae. The group began paved the way for contemporary trends by including touches of punk, dancehall and hip-hop.

Also performing is Grammy Award nominee Luciano. Known as ‘The Messenger,’ Luciano established himself in the reggae scene with hits since the early ’90s. With more than 30 albums recorded, he continues to inspire fans and promote consciousness through his lyrics.

Well-known Jamaican artist Capleton will be bringing his rootsy vibes to the desert, along with “Queen of Reggae” Marcia Griffiths, who made the Electric Slide an international dance craze with her recording of “Electric Boogie.”

At the forefront of Hawaii’s reggae scene, The Green has had rapid success on the Billboard Reggae Chart, their debut album remaining on the chart for a record 69 weeks and their sophomore album spending four weeks at number one.

The event boasts not only great music, but vendors in the Caribbean Islands Vendor Village will have Caribbean-style items for sale, food and beverages, and exhibits.

Fans should purchase tickets now for $35 as the ticket prices will go up to $40 the day of show (plus any service fees). General two-day admission is a bargain at $60. There are also a limited number of VIP two-day packages for $120 which includes an event t-shirt, event poster, artist meet ‘n greet, air conditioned VIP lounge with free wine tasting and appetizers. June in Vegas?! The air conditioning is worth the price of the VIP tickets alone! To purchase tickets, visit www.ticketfly.com.

This festival is fun for the whole family and children five and younger are free when accompanied with an adult.

Our piano player was a blind lady named Mrs. Witherspoon and she told me I had a great voice for singing. I then took up the drum in school and played it in school. After High school I joined the army and was shipped to Germany where I heard Reggae Music for the first time (Bob Marley’s “Coming in from the Cold). I also had a Tank driver Named Pickering that was also a bass player, he showed me some methods and I took up the Harmonica to pass the time and work on melodies. My cousin Prentice was an avid blues harmonica player and he taught me some new tricks of bending notes to add resonance to the music.

After the army I worked for the U.S. postal service and I would play my harmonica at work, to pass the time. I went to the Reggae on the River in California for several years; I worked there and met Michael Franti, Jr. Gong and Ziggy Marley, Bunny Wailer and a host of other reggae artist including Eek A Mouse.

I purchased a keyboard and sound equipment to continue my musical ambitions.

I was eventually asked by a group of friends from Napa, California to form a reggae group called “The Irie League”. We played a few shows until the band broke up, because of technicalities. I was sent to jail for a fraud charge and spent 83 days there, where I wrote hundreds of songs relating to the Bible. After my house was broken into and my ganja and sound equipment stolen, I had to purchase more and move to Cool California. I continued to play music and compose until the Summer 2005 when I was asked to form another band called Cool Dub, with several musicians from the bay area. We performed in the Gold country and Sacramento until 2010 when we disbanded. The others were not into the music as I was and it seemd that I was putting triple the effort of them. I have been on stage with several groups that asked me to join them, but I just want to go solo and provide sound for bands. I now do sound and DJ for Ras Rebel and Rebel soldiers and any other band that requires it. I continue to compose and put out solo sounds as Cool Dub/DJ and Sound. You can find me on Facebook, reverbnation, Soundcloud, youtube, and fandalism under the name Cool Dub or Cool Dub Band. A self-taught Multi-instrumnetalist and songwriter/composer Inspired By the words and music of Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Gregory Issacs, Israel Vibration, Dennis Brown,Midnite,Culture, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and a host of other Reggae Greats.

I have taught myself, Keyboard, harmonica, guitar, and I also play several percussive instruments as well.

It would definitely be nice to find a band willing to back me, so I could concentrate on singing, but until then, I guess I’m on my own..

Ras Jammie draws on his island roots in “creating his own brand of homegrown American reggae.” His “fresh perspective” on roots reggae, Jamaican ska and Island music is rich with Jamaican riddims from a singer-songwriter whose commanding baritone voice “makes Peter Tosh sound like Desmond Dekker.”

Born in New York State with diverse roots from his Jamaican grandmother (Blue Mtns.) and Geechi father (James Island, North Carolina), Ras Jammie (aka James Rouse Jr.) eventually migrated from the northeast to Berkeley, California and later Tucson, Arizona where he owned and ran Rouse Your Spirits Recording Studio. A reggae entertainer for over 30 years, Ras Jammie now calls Oregon his home.

As a singer-songwriter with an impressive baritone voice, Ras Jammie writes the music and lyrics to all his songs. Recording several cds on his own label – RoV Roots Creations – Ras Jammie notes that “since the music industry is hard to break into, I had to take from the past to create the future of American reggae music. Using strong, backbone riddims of old-school Jamaican reggae and the soulful riddims of Motown complete with backup vocalists, I have created my own reggae style where no song sounds the same.” He also writes dancehall and blues music for other artists.”

Like jazz legends Charlie Rouse (his uncle) and distant cousin Thelonius Monk, Ras Jammie has created his own brand of reggae. In between the island jazz sounds of Third World and the in-your-face lyrics of Peter Tosh, with further influences from U-Roy and Jacob “Killer” Miller, the Ras Jammie sound has been called “homegrown American reggae” by longtime Beat Magazine music reviewer Chuck Foster.

With worldwide airplay and several full-length reggae and dub releases, Ras Jammie is played from the former Soviet Union to Australia, Asia, Europe and the U.S. and Canada His song “Sometimey People” is on Vol. 1 of the UK Reggae Radio Compilation. Reggae hits include “Mr. Collie Man’ and “Bump The Time”. A new dub and reggae release are both in production.

Ras Jammie and his band, The Spiff Tones, play continually throughout the Northwest. Seamlessly blending reggae, Jamaican ska, various island beats and dancehall, he keeps the crowds dancing all night.

With jammin’ rhythms, soulful harmonies and powerful lyrics, Ras Jammie is a distinctive voice in reggae music. Check him live online at YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, Myspace, CDBaby.

The Duo Papa Michigan and General Smiley recorded their first number 1 hit Rub A Dub Style , followed by the equally popular Nice Up The Dance.

The duo then recorded at Tuff Gong Studio the classic One Love Jamdown, produced by Jahmet Enwright, which was released as a double a-side with Freddie McGregors Jogging. Michigan And Smiley gave a dynamic performance at the annual Reggae Sunsplash Festival in 1981, which led to a debut appearance in the UK where they topped the bill at the Black Echoes Reggae Awards Show.

In 1982 Henry Junjo Lawes productions dominated the dancehall introducing current DJs to a wider audience without attenuating the sound. Michigan And Smiley recorded a grim warning to prospective philanderers, Diseases, and the song inspired Yellowman to record an identical version alongside his sparring partner, Fathead.

Throughout the 80s Michigan And Smiley sustained attention in the album charts with the releases Step By Step,Sugar Daddy, Back In The Biz and Reality Must Rule Again. The duo enjoyed a revival in the 90s when some of their earlier hits resurfaced through VP in the USA.

Presently Michigan and Smiley still get Together for performances though they both are involve in their respective Projects within the realms of the art.

General Smiley has since completed his first solo CD entitled “Aim Goal Plan” recorded at the Kingston Studio, produced by Jillian Wess for upful One Records now available for download on Itunes and CD Baby

“Stages” Is the General’s second solo CD but the first produced inside the RuffCompany Studio is now avaible for download on ITunes

Since 2005 General Smiley has been touring northern California, north east U.S, north west U.S and the south east U.S with some young artists such as Part One Tribe Band from Cocoa Beach Florida, Soul Medic from Navada City California along with Jah Works of Big Island Hawaii,Sgt Remo and Mr Kali from New Mexico along side Ken Serious from Clarendon JA touring with many top DJs.

In 2008 when he passed through Austin, Texas on tour, General Smiley linked up with McPullish at Dub Compound Studio for a late night dub session after a show. When Smiley heard the music McPullish was working on he was inspired to record some new lyrics he had been carrying around in his head, thus creating their first collaboration: Natty Natty. Smiley also recorded some fiery dub specials that evening and these two have been collaborating ever since. Charlie is happy to report that a full length album and full dub companion album have been completed and are now available. General Smiley Meets McPullish At Dub Cove The music on this album is a fresh take on roots reggae, dub and more, drawing from a wide palette and many diverse influences.

With wisdom in her lyrics and feeling in her Jah blessed voice, Khalilah Rose has spent the last 10 months entrenching herself in the upper echelons of the reggae And on her debut album—Zion’s Lullaby, her words have never sounded so powerful and truthful, her voice never so demanding…seconds on every song will have you thinking about a revolution against evil……

“People are always trying to redefine themselves, re-invent themselves,” says Khalilah Rose . “But I’m not selling you a lie ; I’m not selling you hype; I’m giving you my heart felt feelings and I’m trying to deliver Jah’s messages to you. And there’s value in that.” …we need a change for GOOD!

Her album Zion’s Lullaby with it’s eclectic appearances from guests Turbulence and Lutan Fyah as collaborative singles was recorded and producers and sounds transcends sub-genres and geography the cd Leave the PAGANS in fear, this is simply a filler-free REGGAE album from one of the finest female singer….

“Sure, things are different out there; music sounds differently, it gets made differently and it gets listened to and talked about differently. But it’s still music. And you still have to come with the truth as Jah wants it to be told”

Don’t think of the album title as some petulant shrug of the shoulders. Zion’s Lullaby is a mission statement from an artist equally inspired by the music of her contemporaries and frustrated by the static to noise ratio she hears in the music business. “People get down on things, people whine on them blogs about reggae needs this and reggae needs that …but the music of this year, with my sister Etana, with I-Wayne, with Romain Virgo…I AM PROUD TO SAY REGGAE IS FAR FROM OVER!! it makes me proud to put out an album this year. This has been a great year for reggae and it is only getting better and better!!I wanted to have my say and i’m am saying!”

this bio is not over until Khalilah Rose say her views about radio djs . Unapologetically dedicated to her gift, Zion’s Lullaby is an offering to not just Reggae aficionados, but truly anyone that calls themselves a music lover. It’s full of the frustration and anger of daily life, the joy and excess of a Sabbath night and the clear-eyed contemplation of a Sunday morning. It’s about what life gives and what it takes away. It’s simply a portrait of an artist doing her thing at the highest level. And if you don’t’ like it, you need Jah in your life…if you don’t play it eventually you will.

Zion’s Lullaby went on to be the top album seller on cdbaby.com and Amazonmp3.com over sixty thousand downloads from July 2012 to December 2012 and with only five thousand in hard copies it was sold out in stores in a jiffy of time.

2013 is going to be a better year for Reggae Music and Khalilah Rose is on a solid booked mission… As a single mother and a rasta woman Khalilah Rose juggles music and raising a child so anyone can imagine the dedication.

Khalilah Rose is a soldier in the army of Jah and the mission is far from over…..

Khalilah Rose is blessed with this . When you sweat, cried and stand up for your believes and hold a strong understanding of life , when you hold faith and look to the most high and share your visions for reggae music with some of the most respectable people in the industry and still make a name for yourself as artist, when your talent is so internationally known and you can hold it down in any country globally with out questioning promotions and publicity for a show that you are booked for ,when you’ve took the stage with Capleton,Anthony B,Turbulence,Lutan Fyah,Josey Wales,Frankie Paul,Etana,Queen Ifrica,Marcia Griffiths,John Holt,Ken Boothe,Freddy Mc Gregor,Cutty Ranks,Everton Blender, and held your own…not scared of twenty five thousand people in an open arena …and you are an Ambassador for Good reggae music…only then you can say your name from Birth is Khalilah Rose…..

Born in Portland Jamaica to a Christian family but was chosen by Jah as a messenger in 2009 after graduating from Hofstra University in USA with a Masters in education…

Khalilah Rose teached in New York school system for a year and remigrated back to Jamaica in 2012 to pursue music…with the lack of positive music on Jamaica’s airwaves Khalilah Rose management put their focus on European and Asia market and quickly gathered a strong African fan base for the singer.

Khalilah Rose rapidly gained a huge buzz in the reggae community globally and in 2012 she launched her first European tour with stop in UK,France and Amsterdam and a quick stint in South Africa.

This mini tour gave her an upper hand on media and she quickly became a media frenzy and a must have artiste in their print… Khalilah Rose graced the pages of New York Times,Jus Jah Mag,L3 Magz,Jamaica Star,Vision UK,first Reggae artist on Allhiphop.com(world’s leading hip hop site) and many many more prints from Guyana,Trinidad,Nigeria,Canada,Dubai,South Africa….
